Pink Fairy Armadillo: Strange Species

Pink Fairy Armadillo

A pink fairy armadillo is a mammal and is found in the dry grasslands and sandy plains having thorny bushes in the central Argentina in the continent Africa. It has astonishing digging capabilities and can disappear in the land within seconds when scared. It lives near ant nests by digging holes in the land and feeds mainly on ants and their larva. It is also seen eating snails, small plants, etc.
It is the smallest creature in the armadillo family and is has a strange bony armor shell to protect itself. When measured without the tail, its length comes to be around 10 cm (9-1.5 cm). The pink has been added to its name because of its pink or pale rose color. It is basically a sand swimmer and spends most of its life underground. It has large front claws which is very useful in moving forward under the sand in the same way as water.

This category of armadillo faces great threat due to increased cattle farming and was declared as endangered by IUCN in 1996. Now pink fairy is mostly found in preserved grasslands and its status was enhanced to near threatened in 2006. Since 2008, it has been declared as data deficient and there is no genuine information about its present status.
