Harbor of Rio de Janeiro

Harbor of Rio De Janeiro

Harbor of Rio De Janeiro lies in the Brazilian city Rio which is also known for its annual Carnival and one of the seven wonders ‘Christ the Redeemer’. Rio is the only city in the world to have two wonders. Harbor of Rio is one of the ‘Seven Natural Wonders of the World’. A Portuguese explorer named the bay as Rio De Janeiro which means ‘River of January’ since he explored the place in the month of January and the bay looked like the mouth of a river.
The bay of Rio De Janeiro has the shape of a giant balloon and has an inline circumference of 80 kilometers. The bay is surrounded by granite hills from sides which also surround the 130 islands of the bay. These islands are actually the top of the hills whose base lies underwater. The bay has been formed in millions of years by the force of ocean currents. The city of Rio stands on the circumference of the bay and the bay is visible from most places in the city. Being so deep and big in area, Rio De Janeiro is known for its vast volume of water.

Harbor of Rio De Janeiro is a major Tourist attraction for the world because of its own beauty and spectacular view of the statue of Christ the Redeemer.

The city is developing at such a fast rate that it has become a threat to the bay, since the hills around it are being flattered for land and mining.
